Possible scam (Debt collector) reported by Janet Jin

I received a letter demand payment of NZD135 for an alleged parking offence. It did not have any details like date, time and vehicle involved; just had my name and address. So I emailed Baycorp for information. Instead I got an email asking for ?? My name, address, date of birth??? Same day, I received a short note in the mail asking me to call this number for 'an important matter'. I asked around and most ppl think its a scam. I think so too. Otherwise how is it they don't know my name and address despite sending me a demand notice?

I received a text messaging saying this is regarding an important matter. While the number was an 0800 number I thought maybe it is from Health Line (these day everyone is worried about CoronaVirus), so I called them back immediately. When I called the 0800 number they asked me to provide a ref. number that they **** in the text message. I refused to provide any sort of information unless they tell what the text message is about. These guys are playing really dirty game using peoples' concerns about the virus. The text message is totally misleading.

I phoned back following a text message (after checking BayCorp's website to ascertain the phone number was real). They failed to be able to access my records and promised to phone back. I'm still waiting and have no idea what for!
