Called wanting me to sign-up to a monthly direct debit donation to help leukemia patients. Very well spoken lady, making general conversation and chatting about who the money would be helping. I was happy to sign up until she asked for my credit card name and number. This rang alarm bells with me. She said if I gave it to her, she could set it up straight away with payments either coming out on the 1st or 15th of the month depending on what suited me. She said if I signed up straight away, she would be able to send me out my free gift (I had stupidly already given her my address). I said I wasn't comfortable giving her that information and could I do it on line. She said to google the number she was ringing from to check and to do it on the spot so then she could sign me up and send out the free gift. I said I was at work and it would have to be later in the day and we arranged a time for her to call me back. I am blocking this number!!!

Presumably a telemarketing company used by World Wildlife Fund and other charities and businesses. They knew I’d signed a petition, seemed legit, and wanting to update me on the campaign. They didn’t get to the point of asking for money before I had to go (“Sorry, I’m actually on a Zoom call…”).

The person rang claimed to work "on behalf" as a third party for the SPCA. So essentially a 3rd party telemarketer. I think it may be legit but ppl are just naturally (and quite rightly!!!) suspicious including me.

I called the number back and it says 'thank you for reaching the SPCA' but this number is not on the SPCA website so I think it's a scam

Just because it is not on the SPCA website it could be a valid DDI of the organisation, most DDI's are not published. Or, it could be dodgy of course... Just adding another perspective. :) I didn't even answer it, I'm glad i didn't.

They ring me on my cell phone and as I don't answer they then ring my land-line, numerous times a day. Won't leave a message. Now they also ring from an overseas number. Really annoying.
